Lore

The Project

I have a lot of copies of Shrek 2 for PS2.

This madness has been going on for 10 years and it brings me immense joy. I like seeing them around the house, and friends and family routinely gift them to me as they know how much joy it brings me.

The rules I keep are fairly simple:

I don’t buy them online for myself.

i.e. I can be gifted them via any means, or find them in physical shops, but I can’t just go on eBay and order 20 of them.

I don’t make the fun rules. It’s just how these things are.

It’s been a long time coming, but it’s about time I let everyone else join in with the fun, so please do enjoy this website I’ve bodged together and be respectful. I am simply a man with a lot of nostalgia for a mid-tier 3.9/10 IGN reviewed videogame.

The Collection

This collection is only for copies of Shrek 2 for PS2. As I’m based in the UK, they are primarily PAL editions, and I am forever hunting down NTSC copies from the Americas.

Sometimes I dream I'll fill my entire house with shreks

One day I’ll open a museum so everyone can enjoy them in their full green splendor, but for now you’ll have to trust me it’s all rather good fun.

Versions of Shrek 2 for PS2

Regular (PAL - UK)

The most common little dude in the collection. This is also the copy I grew up with, so it holds a special place in my heart.
About 300,000 of these were sold in the UK and the secret goal of this project is to own 3,000 of these copies so I can say I own 1% of all Shrek 2 for PS2s.

Platinum (PAL - UK)

Platinum editions were released as “budget” versions later in the PS2’s lifetime, specifically for games that sold really well in their original run.
Most collectors would probably scoff at Platinum copies, but here at TooManyOgres we welcome them with open arms. It is not a failure to be a copy of something great, it is simply a celebration of something beautiful.

Greatest Hits (NTSC-U)

This one was a white whale for quite some time. I assumed the Americans had discovered video games not long after the rest of us, but what I didn’t know is that instead of silver Platinum versions they had these bright bold American red “Greatest Hits” editions.
I even hunted for one in Vancouver and couldn’t bloody find it. Eventually my wife and best mate flew some in, which is great fun.

Regular (PAL - German)

How in the great green fuck did I get a German copy? This is the rarest in the collection so far and heavily sought after. I only noticed it was different after photographing the collection and spotting the little yellow age warning. Great stuff.
I believe there is also a French version and a European Platinum copy that I desperately want.

Not To Be Sold Separately (PAL)

Right. Okay internet, I need help here. What the fuck is “Not To Be Sold Separately”? I’ve heard rumours that it was bundled with the Shrek movie or possibly Shrek the Third, but I cannot find any photos of what these bundles are supposed to look like.
If anyone has information about this version, I desperately want to know more.

Other Missing Copies

The remaining versions needed to complete the set include: Regular (NTSC-U), Regular or Platinum (NTSC-J), Platinum (PAL European), and Regular (PAL French).

If there are any other versions that exist I desperately need them and will not stop until I own every single version.
